This policy explains what happens to information when you visit holdoutdays.com. It is written to be read rather than to be impressive, and it describes what the site actually does.

The publisher is the controller of any personal data described below. Questions about this policy, and requests concerning your own data, go to the email address above.

What we collect

We do not ask you to register, we do not run a newsletter, and we do not operate a comment section. There is no account to create and no profile to fill in. In practice that leaves three categories.

Information you send us deliberately

If you write to one of the addresses on this site, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to put in it. We use it to answer you and for nothing else. Correspondence is kept while it is needed to deal with the matter and for a reasonable period afterwards, then deleted.

Technical information from your visit

Our hosting provider records standard server information for every request: the IP address, the time, the page requested, the referring page where one is sent, and the browser's user-agent string. This is normal web-server logging. It is used to deliver the page, to keep the site available and to deal with abuse, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

Advertising and measurement

This site carries advertising, and traffic to it is sometimes bought through advertising platforms such as Google Ads. Where a measurement or advertising tag is active on a page, the provider of that tag may set or read cookies and may receive technical information about your visit, including your IP address, under its own privacy terms. The Cookie Policy describes what may be set and how to refuse it.

Why we are allowed to do this

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: our legitimate interest in operating and securing the website and in understanding in general terms how it is used; your consent, where a non-essential cookie or tag requires it; and the performance of a request, where you write to us and expect an answer.

Who else sees it

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it to be sold. Information is processed by the suppliers that make the site work:

• a hosting and content-delivery provider, which serves the pages and keeps server logs;
• an email provider, which carries messages you send us;
• advertising and measurement providers, where their tags are active on a page.

Those suppliers operate in several countries, so information may be processed outside the country you are reading from, under the safeguards their own terms provide.

How long it is kept

Server logs are kept for a short operational period by the hosting provider and then rotated out. Email correspondence is kept while the matter is live and for a reasonable period after it is closed. Information held by advertising providers is governed by their own retention rules, which we do not control.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, data protection law may give you the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw a consent you have given, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Relevant frameworks include UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the UK GDPR and comparable state privacy laws in the United States.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to the address above and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection and is a static website: there is no database of readers, no login and no stored payment information. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page with a new review date at the top. Material changes will be summarised here rather than made quietly.
